A Visit from an Old Friend

In the end of September, I had the pleasure of seeing Jen Wong Baez (Jen Thompson). She was on a business trip in India and was able to make Doha one of her stops on her way to visit Michelle Estradé (Michelle Henry) in Germany.

Jen and I headed to the Pearl, which is to high end of town to say the least. We enjoyed a walk through the high end mall and along the water. Here are some of the photos of the Pearl. The tall buildings are townhouses. I have a student who told me that his family owns four townhouses. I then wanted to ask him when I was going to be invited to one of them, but I restrained myself.

High Tea

I still haven't finished with Eid Break. One afternoon, a few new friends and I headed to the Four Seasons Hotel for high tea. It reminded me so much of my grandma Houston. We enjoyed delicious treats and I chose a yummy Moroccan mint tea.

Alli is a 3rd grade teacher. I am going to Rome with her in November!

Henna Time

Also during Eid Break, I headed to the henna parlor with some friends.

Henna (Lawsonia inermis) is a flowering plant used since antiquity to dye skin, hair, fingernails, leather, and wool.

Only women are allowed in the salon. They were doing some very intricate designs and it is truly an art form. I just got a little design on my ankle and my arm.

Concert in the Souq

After visiting the MIA, we headed to the Souq Waqif to see an amazing concert. The energy in the crowd was AWESOME!

I Have a Blog?

Hi! It's me again! It's been quite so time, but here we go. Updating the blog of my recent adventures in Doha and at ASD has been on the list for a while. Since my mind tends to work in chronological order, let's start back in September with Eid Break. Eid marks the end of Ramadan and we had a week off of school. I finally got to get out and explore Doha with a new friend who has been here for a few years. I got a wonderful car tour of some hot spots (Isn't all of Doha hot?) in Doha. Afterward, we went to explore the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), which is supposed to be one of the best collections of Islamic art in the world. I would have to agree and say that the MIA is one of my new favorite spots in Doha!
