Museum of Islamic Art

Jen and I also went to the MIA!  I finally got to see all the exhibits.  It was so great to be able to spend some time reading up on all the wonderful history.  It brought back lots of reminders and memories of one of my favorite history classes at CMU (The History of the Middle East) with Dr. Robertson!

Here is a brief array of some of the pieces that the MIA has to offer.  I have some of the building itself since it is also a beautiful piece of artwork.

This is a turban helmet from Turkey from the early 16th century.  It contains a small stamp that indicates it was once kept in the Ottoman arsenal of St. Irene where arms and military regalia taken as booty by the Ottomans from Christians and other Muslim armies were stored.

There are lots of different pieces of jewelry from throughout the centuries.
It was so fascinating to see the progression and changes throughout the centuries as different groups of people had control of different parts of the Middle East.  There are so many different cultures that are documented and represented here.

In the fist pictures that I posted from this spot, the skyline was very clear.  However, on this day, it was VERY humid!
Jen really enjoyed the museum because she was able to really apply and put different things together from what she had learned in India.
